THE AUTHOR
Hi, I'm Mark, and I have been working as a designer and illustrator for over 20 years.
I've always been fascinated by the power imagination has to transport us to new and mysterious worlds to explore.
As a child, I was introduced to fantasy through videogames, books, movies, and cartoons
(The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, Donner's Ladyhawk, Boorman's
Excalibur, Record of Lodoss War, Saint Seiya, and Star Wars,
among others).
I later realized that early life experiences are the most crucial in human development.
As I grew older, I became drawn to the dark side of fantasy and sci-fi contained in the art of Luis Royo,
the horror of H.P. Lovecraft,
Philip Dick's novels, Proyas's Dark City, and Del Toro's Pan's
Labyrinth.
I am also passionate about Greek mythology (I love the myths in Hesiod's Theogony) and
psychology.
The Voice of the Enemy owes something to all these authors and their work. It is the culmination of a project I started in 1997, which has been a big part of my life. It is definitely the biggest project I've ever worked on.
I'm an old-school illustrator: I still draw on paper with pencils and brushes.
